San Juan City Hospital (SJCH) Internal Medicine program is the first residency program established in  Puerto Rico.  San Juan City Hospital is located at the Puerto Rico Medical Center in Rio Piedras, P.R.  It is a 215 bed general hospital.  The institution sponsors residency program in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ob‑Gyn, and a Transitional year program.  This is a tertiary care community hospital that serves the capital city of San Juan.  The Hospital is part of the largest medical center complex in Puerto Rico and the caribbean, located in Las Americas expressway, at approximately ten minutes from the International Airport Luis Munoz Marin.

In addition to our institution, the Medical Center is composed of a Pediatric Hospital, the Oncologic Hospital, Cardiovascular Hospital and the University of Puerto Rico School (UPR) of Medicine. Our affiliation to the UPR School of Medicine strength our curriculum because our residents have the opportunity to rotate through their programs, sharing many educational services and lectures.  This interaction between residents and the exchange of different ideas and experiences make this an excellent academic environment.  Second and fourth year medical students from the UPR School of Medicine and other medical school from Puerto Rico and other countries rotate through our institution.  The Internal Medicine Department has three general medicine teaching wards, one Intensive Care Unit and a specialized ward for oncologic patients allowing our residents to see and treat a wide variety of medical conditions.

All our units are teaching services staffed by one attending physician and two or more residents.
